When a patient comes into my office, I listen to what they say …..what they need, what they want ….I put it into my mind filter where I have a library of experience, study, and clinical practice.
My intention is to address what their main concern is and to accomplish that by connecting each person with their own inner wisdom. That’s how I make a diagnosis and a treatment plan: I listen to what they say when they speak, and I listen to what their body tells me through my hands.
A treatment in my office is generally between 60 and 75 minutes long. I spend some time at the beginning listening to what the patient wants to speak about, what their question is, and what their main complaint is.
Then we begin work on the table. My primary technique is Cranio Sacral Therapy….. I scan their body to find the focal points of their problem and begin to address those patterns on a physical level. I create more and more stillness and deeper relaxation which will enable both of us to hear what their inner physician, or inner wisdom, wants accomplished that day.
Sometimes we dialogue, discussing where the pain is and whether or not that pain or tension or discomfort is actually a message that needs to be processed verbally and not just physically. Sometimes the treatment is primarily silent.
I am describing to you what a somatic process is like.
Sometimes I do acupuncture, sometimes I create an herbal formula or make nutritional suggestions. Sometimes I refer to another colleague or course of action besides what I can offer.
In addition to seeing patients face-to-face, I do some virtual work using Zoom or FaceTime.
I always include ways that a patient can work on themselves. I use the techniques I have created in Cellular Yoga and send people home with homework.
The brain is always involved in any kind of issue with the body… Physical, emotional, or spiritual. I always make sure that I address for simple principles… First, identify a problem. Second, choose to stop doing whatever is causing harm. Third, move towards a positive resolution with action. Fourth, believe in the process and oneself. That’s why I always include homework ….
